it was amazing

Midnight Angel is not the kind of book I normally read. I love books set in England, but as a rule I don’t read any romance tinged with horror and graphic violence. But I couldn’t put Midnight Angel down. I had to know what happened.
Kat is a divorcee with a grown son. She’s bought herself a new cottage and is planning a great time redecorating with her best friends. When she’s assaulted by a monster everything changes. The assault leaves her with terrible wounds and new powers. Suddenly she can see things she’s never seen before, including a lover who first comes to her in dreams. Kat’s caught up in the battle between angels and demons and if she and her new friends don’t find the demons, it could mean the end of our world. Wonderful first book. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Midnight Angel captured my interest from page one.

The author crafted paranormal suspense that kept me on the

edge of me seat...and made me late for work yesterday!

Through the shape shifting tale, she told a very possible

romantic story that gave a realistic feel to the novel. I love

getting caught up in the world of a book and peeking over my

shoulder just to make sure the paranormal isn't real. Yes, it

was that good! I loved all the side characters and hope this

author continues with their stories in a continuing series.

If you are looking for a book thats exciting and a bit different...you just found it! This book is amazing, I couldn't put it down! The creativity is fantastic, it makes you picture what's happening in your head! I literally didn't want it to end. Good job!

After surviving a vicious attack Kat Shaw learns that monsters really do exist in the world. She begins having dreams of brutal murders and finds that she is seeing what the demon who had attacked her is actually doing. Kat is thrown into the battle of good versus evil as her attacker stalks her and continues to murder innocent victims.

First, a couple of things about Midnight Angel. This one is definitely an adult fantasy read as there was quite a bit of sexual content going on. It took me a bit of getting used to as I’m used to the whole demon fighting type of read being mostly young adult. Plus with this one there’s a bit of a love triangle situation with the main character meeting two men.

Otherwise, I like the idea behind the plot in this one. The idea of surviving an attack only to end up linked to the attacker was certainly interesting. To be injured and have your injuries heal rather quickly would be odd enough but to learn what you are seeing is actually taking place and there is a whole world out there you didn’t know existed was a fun topic.

Tracey A Wood has lives in Staffordshire, in the United Kingdom. She has been married for over thirty years and has two children. One of her boy’s lives at home due to being disable the other has flown the coup. She has three cats that are her babies, and she talks to them all of the time. Funny thing is they don’t answer back!

 

She loves snowboarding, skiing, jumping out of airplanes and bungee jumping. Well, that is when other people are doing them. She prefers to have her nose in a book or writing one. She also loves to people watch which her husband is always telling her to stop doing. She has a job that she enjoys and works full time. Although if she won the lottery, that might change! She has also got a very good imagination!

 

She is still working full time and is also working on another book in her limited spare time.  Her favourite saying is ‘Everything happens for a reason’ which she also believes is true.

 

Her books are fast paced and centred on a female lead who finds an inner strength after being thrown into situations that are beyond her control.

I have read the other two books in the series and thoroughly enjoyed them both. How to seduce a Queen, lived up to the others and more. It contains highs and lows with plenty of plot twists to keep you enthralled. Ms Alden continues this series giving you everything you want and more.

Nicolas De Bruce aims to seduce the lady Fay. He is ordered by his grandfather, to get her pregnant and then dump her in a nunnery. Fate is a strange thing and while disguised as a monk, to gain her trust, they fall in love. I won’t spoil it for other readers but you will enjoy the antics of both Lady Fay and Nicholas as they try to find a happy ending.

The park was empty at this time of night. All the children had gone home hours ago. The nights were getting colder and the evening air bit through my clothes, making me shiver. A light dew clung to my hair and skin as the darkness closed in around me, shrouding me from the main road.
After a long day at work, I made my way along the manmade path. It was a good shortcut taking fifteen minutes off my journey. I would soon be home, safe and warm.
What to have for dinner? Hmm. Pizza! Yeah, I’ll dial a pizza. Treat myself. Why not?
Happy with my decision, I carried on my way.
Pulling my jacket collar up around my neck, I tried to beat the cold and the shiver running up my spine.
A sharp pain shot through my head, stunning me, and suddenly I was flying across the path. My forehead hit the ground with an audible thump. Another powerful flash of pain. Black blotches blurred my vision as I tried to focus on my surroundings.
I attempted to get up but something struck my back, flattening me to the ground. The wind rushed from my lungs. I couldn’t move! A heavy weight sat on my back, holding me down. I struggled to draw enough air into my lungs. Something sharp penetrated my back, then my arms and the top of my leg. It was pure agony!
What’s happening? Have I been stabbed?
Tucking my flailing hands under my body, I attempted to get up, a silent scream trapped inside me, but the weight held me in place.
Snaking my body, I wriggled across the compact soil of the path, attempting to pull myself forward. It was no use. I couldn’t even get to my hands and knees.
My clothes were ripped from my back as the onslaught continued.
The pain slowly dulled, even though I was still at the mercy of my attacker. My heart pounded with fear as this predator snatched at my body. I was shaken violently from side to side. My gut told me my attacker was male. He was dominant, strong, and overpowering.
Oh God, this can’t be happening. No, please. I don’t want to die!
Glancing around frantically for a weapon, I realized I still had my keys in my hand. Without thinking, I slashed them behind my back with as much force as I could. They bit into something soft. Warm fluid flowed over me.
I had hurt him and possibly made him angrier. This unseen person was going to do the unthinkable. He was going to violate me, rob me of my life, or both. I desperately needed to get away from this monster. But how? I couldn’t fight back. Damn it, I couldn’t even move.
Nausea washed over me as my body weakened, my life draining away. A dark mist clouded my mind, consuming me, consuming my thoughts. I was going to die here in a lonely, dark park in the middle of London. I would never see my family and friends again.
Why? Why? I want to live. Help me, please help me, someone!
As if this monster had heard my silent plea, the shaking suddenly stopped. The weight lifted slightly and I could breathe. Relief washed over me.
Had the attack finished? Did he think I was dead?
I lay still, faking death, struggling not to take deep, gulping breaths. I fought the panic pumping through my body.
I became aware of a stroking sensation on my back, a light caress. Small strokes, followed by a sound I could not identify. The strokes became harder and the noise louder. A wet, squelching sound.
What is that?
My head spun with confusion and panic as I strained to locate my attacker. I saw a movement from the corner of my eye. I turned but couldn’t focus. It was too dark and I was in shock.
Warm liquid ran down my back, arms, and legs. Blood. My blood, but there was no pain, still no pain.
In a moment of clarity, I knew I had to move. To get away before my attacker struck again.

Midnight Angel release - meet the author

You've probably all seen the posts, tweets, and blogs about my debut novel, Midnight Angel. They have been going on for months now. Well, finally it's here!

I have been writing this book since 2010 and since then it has changed, considerably. Oh, the overall plot is the same. But if you have never written a book, you wouldn't believe the amount of time and effort it has taken, to get it to this point. I hope you enjoy this first installment of the Council series.

Review of Born of Betrayal by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Born of Betrayal by Sherrilyn Kenyon

The League series is more science fiction than urban fantasy. Normally I aren't a Sci-fi fan, but with that said this is definitely an exception. The excellent plot/writing by Ms. Kenyon keeps you enthralled. I have read all of the league books and the Dark Hunter series and thoroughly loved them both.
This book follows hot on the heels of Born of Defiance, the story surrounding Talyn. Born of Betrayal is mainly about Fain Hauk and Galene, Talyn’s parents. There are numerous cameo appearances from previous characters in the series. It is fast paced and has a plot that makes you want to keep reading. It also fills in the gaps and explains a lot of the misunderstandings from both parents side. Ms. Kenyon is a brilliant emotional manipulator, making you swing from sad and pitying to happy and joyous, within a paragraph. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Review of Menagerie by Rachel Vincent

I wasn’t too sure how this novel was going to play out, at first. I loved Ms. Vincent’s Shifter series. Once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. Ms. Vincent captivates your imagination with mythical creatures you know and love. Werewolves, Siren’s, Djinn, Trolls, Minotaurs the list is extensive.

The main character, Delilah Marlow witnesses cruelty to one of the attractions at the Metzger’s Menagerie, which is a traveling carnival containing Cryptids (Mythical creatures) by the hand of one of the handlers. Her reaction is shocking to everyone she knows, including herself.

Delilah finds herself stripped of her human rights. Her job, home and even her name, taken from her. This novel deals with the issues of how people treat things they don’t understand. It presents the darker side of human nature and how some of the handlers mistreat their charges.
I loved this book and can’t wait for a sequel

Review of Hunt by Rachel Vincent

I love the Shifter series which is based around Faythe Sanders, who is a female werecat that becomes the first, female, pride enforcer.

Hunt is a short story that follows on from the six and final book in the werecat series, Alpha.

It is based around a young female werecat, Abby Wade. Abby makes her first appearance in Stray and it good to revisit the character to see her grown up, and over coming her fears, and doubts around her abilities to protect herself, and her friend. It is a bonus that the sexy werecat, now Alpha, Jace has a cameo in this story. He was one of my favorite characters in the original series. This is a highly entertaining story from Ms Vincent and if you enjoyed the Shifter series you will certainly enjoy this.

I am looking forward to reading the Lion’s share, which is a Wildcats novel. The first book in the spin off series. Thank you so much Ms Vincent.

The Shadow Rises by K.S. Marsden

I downloaded this book as it was a free download. I didn’t really expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. Hunter or George Ashley is a seventh generation witch hunter who works for an organisation called the Malleus Maleficarum Council (MMC). Right from the start of the book I was hooked and it didn’t disappoint. I must say that I like James who is a first generation witch hunter who works with Hunter. He is a very entertaining Yorkshire lad. I don’t want to give the story away but it is well worth reading. Thank you Ms Marsden.

Sherrilyn Kenyon take us on a fun filled adventure in Devil May Cry. The main characters are Sin a Sumarian fertility God, who had lost his godly powers and Kat a hand maiden of Artemis, or is she? There are a few new characters in this book and some cameos from Artemis, Acheron and Simi. There are also a few questions answered around Acheron and Artemis.
Kat and Sin battle to save humanity with life changing results. I must say that I love the new characters who work for Sin. They are very entertaining. Another excellent book in the series.

Ghost story

The Train Station by Tracey A Wood 17/06/2015

This story was told to me, many years ago.  The person who told me was the very teacher who encouraged and nurtured my imagination which in turn lead me to writing my first novel.

He explained about the day he met an old friend. He was sitting in the coffee shop at his local train station, waiting for a train (of course), to go home. He had been working away and was eager to see his parents. He had been waiting for a few minutes, staring at his coffee cup. He looked up to see a man, standing in front of him, looking down at him without saying a word. He realised that the man was his lifelong friend who he hadn’t seen for a couple of years.  The man took a seat opposite him and they chatted for a while. His friend seemed a little subdued, compared to his normal bubbly self, he put it down to them not seeing each other in a while. After fifteen to twenty minutes, my teacher looked at his watch, realising his train was due. He explained that he would have to go and suggested that they meet up, when he came back to town. They said goodbye and my teacher caught his train.

He arrived at his parent house and later sat talking to them over their evening meal. The caught up on gossip, who was doing what. How the rest of the family were doing, you know the sort of thing?

His mother suddenly said “oh I forgot to ask, did you hear about Richard?”

“Richard” he questioned?

She went on to explain who she meant.

“Oh, funnily enough I saw him earlier, at the station.”

“I’m sorry son” she said. “You must be mistaken. It couldn’t have been him. He was killed last week in a car accident!”

Was this a ghost? Had his lifelong friend come to say goodbye, one last time? Or had he imagined it?

Tell me Lauren, what is the inspiration behind your novel?
I read in a variety of genres beyond romance. I love mysteries, thrillers, suspense, biographies, and even horror. Although I will always write historical romances, I wanted to challenge myself as a writer. I enjoy reading romantic suspense, especially authors such as Linda Howard. I decided that it would be a fun endeavour to try writing a romantic suspense. I found it to be a lot of work, but I really am pleased with the end result.

What will readers love most about your hero/heroine?
Callie is so normal! She has attained a certain level of fame as an actress, but she is very down-to-earth and a lot of fun to be around. I think readers will enjoy her personality, as well as how she bounces back from a horrific stalker attack.

Do you have a favourite moment or scene from your book that you would like to share?
There's actually an entire chapter that I love, so I'll simply tell you about it here. My husband and I honeymooned in New Orleans. I found it to be a romantic and sensual city, steeped in history and tradition. I have Nick and Callie go into NOLA for a day, and they do many of the activities my husband and I did on our visit there.

What word(s) best describe your book?
Relatable romance.

Do you have any upcoming events that you would like to share with readers?
My life is incredibly busy right now. I'm planning my daughter's summer wedding! Once that is behind me, I look forward to November's release of another medieval historical romance, A Knight for Kallen and the March 2016 release of my second romantic suspense, Illusions of Death. Also, look for the Mid-June Goodreads giveaway of some of my paperbacks.

My first Blog - Everything happens for a reason.

Well this is it. My very first blog. OMG.....
Anyway, my motto in life is 'everything happens for a reason'. This point has been driven home to me over the past couple of years.

In 2010, I started to write my very first book. My husband and son wondered why I was writing it and what I aimed to achieve? A that point I didn't really know but I enjoyed myself and got those long dormant creative juices flowing. It tinkered on and off with the book and even, at one point sent it to a publisher. Unfortunately they turned out to be a self publisher but at the time I didn't understand what that was.

Self publishing is alright if you can afford to go down that route but it was an expense that I wasn't prepared to pay. So I sat on my book and revisited it every now and then.

In 2013, I was getting the evening meal ready and preparing food for work the next day. I had been off all day. Very tired and out of sorts. I put it down to stress at work. We all know how that feels. I found that I was struggling to eat and my husband kept asking me if I was alright. I felt fine, just tired. I was sitting working on my computer and my husband asked if I was sure I was alright. I answered, with what I thought was a sensible reply. He asked why I was talking funny. I told him I wasn't. I was just tired and would be alright after a good nights sleep. He was due to go to work on a night shift but knew that there was something the matter with me, even though I didn't. We'd been married for 28 years.

He insisted on taking me to the hospital and to cut a long story short. I had three strokes which were caused by a blood clot on my brain. I didn't realise I was having the first two but when the third one hit, I couldn't move or speak. I was fighting to get my body to work and loosing the battle. When I tried to think it was like I was trying to push or should I say pull the thoughts to the front of my brain through a thick fog, vary scary. Apparently they are called crescendo TIA's (transient ischemic attacks) or mini strokes. Then two days later I found out that my carotid artery had a 90% stenosis on the right hand side. I also found out that I would have to have an operation to solve the problem. If I didn't have the operation, it was very probable that I would have more strokes. The hospital told me that I was lucky as it was and I might not survive another one. I was also told that they couldn't guarantee that I would survive the operation. I could possibly have another stroke and possibly end up blind or worse.

I had the operation within two weeks of having my strokes which left me with a six inch scar from below my ear and down my neck.

I was off work for six months but was finding that I was extremely tired all of the time and my body hurt all over. I was slurring words and bumping into furniture. Twenty months later and a lot of hospital appointment I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Yes I know, I hadn't got a clue what it was either. From what I can gather it is a whole host of problems which don't really fit together. The last doctor I saw told me he didn't like to label my symptoms into this illness and call it chronic full body pain which can not be explained??

Anyway once I found out that these symptoms weren't in my head and that they were real I started to deal with them. There is no cure, just pain management. It was brought on by my illness and I just have to deal with it. I am now back to working full time, I have changed my eating habits, I exercise most days, pain permitting and I have lost two and a half stones in weight.

After going through this illness I decided to send my manuscript to Soulmate publishing in New York and low and behold, Debbie the senior Editor liked it. I had to tinker with it and then resubmit it but in January she sent me a contract. Wooohooo.

I have been working hard, setting up my website, editing my book and generally preparing for my release date. If I hadn't have been ill, I would probably still be sitting with my book on my computer. Reading it and re reading it. So in my opinion everything does happen for a reason. I hope this give you, the reader, the push to follow your dreams. No matter what they are. Life really is too short.
